Kyoorius Design Yatra is an international annual design conference happening in India. In 2017 the event was organized in Goa under the topic “Optimism”, it was the 12th edition and the idea was to open the stage to stories of hope for a better world.
I was invited to be part of a panel discussion about “Type design now” focused on the experience of designing Typefaces in Indic scripts. It was an amazing woman-majority panel integrated by Kimya Gandhi, Noopur Datye and me, moderated by Ishan Khosla.
We discussed different topics about complex scripts, how to check when you can not read it, the lack of standardisation in some Indic scripts, the calligraphy background behind the letter shapes and more.
At the end we agreed that collaboration, interaction and exchange between type designers is key to the growth of type design in India.
